Social dancing to LIVE MUSIC
There is a lot of live music called 'jazz' in KL. There is even very rarely 'swing jazz'. There has never been 'swing jazz for swing dancers' WITH a dance floor.
For a long time, it seemed like it would only happen in some make believe world, as far away as a fairy tale, but now it's coming true :) Please be a part of the story!

A great time for non-dancers/newbies
New-comers to swing can be introduced to this dance in the most fabulous way possible; they can do a taster class and enjoy the live music and dancing that ensues in a no-pressure environment. So please share with your friends!

class information

We present a group of classes that will have you dancing better before you can say "abracajazzda!" The classes hope to conjure up an era where the magic of lindy hop infused all dancers with the spirit of swing.
September 12 (Saturday)
The Gardens Theatre, MidValley (Dance Studio, Level 5, North Tower)
Workshop Session 1: 11am -12.30pm // Open: Solo Jazz
Let's pretend you are a dancer auditioning for a place in Norma Miller's dance troupe. You will have to do a solo jazz piece like her "trickeration" routine!
Solo Jazz is the foundation of moving in the spirit of lindy hop. Stemming from the African traditions, rhythms and styling, "Authentic Jazz" has developed over the years and continues to be creative, exciting and fun! Norma's routine draws from the Harlem nightclubs' chorus girls performances.
Workshop Session 2: 12.45pm - 2.15pm // Int: Slow(er) Lindy
Imagine you are in the heady, early days of swing and you're dancing in the Savoy Ballroom! While the common image of lindy hop is the frenetic and athletic speed of "Hellazpoppin", the bands in the Savoy often played tunes with a more user-friendly pace, allowing dancers to keep on the dance floor all night. In this class we will explore to joys of moving to music of 130beats per minute, which offers creative options and different avenues to express your styling.
September 13 (Sunday)
The Gardens Theatre, MidValley (Dance Studio, Level 5, North Tower)
Workshop Session 3: 11am -12.30pm // Open : Swingy Swing outs
Frankie Manning loved his swing outs and if you were dancing with him, you will see why. No two swing outs are ever the same and in this class we will show you many ways of making your swing out, out there!
Workshop Session 4: 12.45pm - 2.15pm // Int/adv : Magic Moves
Fleet of foot and slick of hand, some dance moves just seem like sorcery! But it all comes down to understanding the technique of connection and momentum. Come learn the secrets of the inner (lindy) circle and unlock the magic mystery of Difficult Moves.
