The Series
Sam & James
Samantha Nguyen & James Yeh
Samantha Nguyen (she/her) and James Yeh (he/him) are dancers from the San Francisco Bay Area, California.
In their over-a-decade dance journey, Sam and James have held roles as ambidancers, competitors, teachers, organizers, performers, and choreographers.
Their social dancing focuses on connecting with the music, listening and responding playfully with their partners, and smooth styling.
Currently, they are highly involved in the San Francisco Bay Area swing dance scene, largely as teachers and curriculum developers since 2017.
Sam and James are so excited to come visit different parts of Asia to share their love of the dance!

Meet the Teachers
Samanthan Nguyen
Sam (she/her) discovered Lindy Hop in the San Francisco Bay Area in 2012, where she quickly fell in love with the improvisation and joy of the dance. She has since continued the entire gambit of dance: she teaches at several local dance schools, organizes events such as The Switch Workshop, and travels all over for a chance to dance until the early hours of the morning.
She has won competitions at events such as the International Lindy Hop Championships (ILHC), Camp Hollywood, Camp Jitterbug, and more, and most recently, she was inducted into the California Swing Dance Hall of Fame in 2023. Sam loves to incorporate silly playfulness, "psychic" partnership, and you-know-every-beat-in-this-song-don't-you musicality in her dancing.
Coming from humble beginnings of gathering in random hallways and learning through YouTube videos, her dance teaching often provides the tools needed for how to learn and how to take inspiration from an idea and make it your own.
Her lessons are crafted to emphasize partnership, connectedness, and having a blast while dancing. You can find her leading and following out on the social dance floor 'til the end of the night despite having to wake up early for her job as a high school teacher.

James Yeh
James (he/him) has been dancing since 2011. He started dancing in the San Francisco Bay Area and immediately caught the dancing bug; he started taking lessons 4-5 times a week.
James has traveled to many events in the US, and he has competed and placed in events such as Camp Hollywood, Lindyfest, and Inspiration Weekend.
During the day, James is a software engineer and enjoys running, rock climbing, and playing the piano, and in the evening, he teaches regularly in the local dance scene.
After taking many (many) classes as a student himself, James teaches with a student-oriented lens to make sure classes are fun, varied, and meet the students' needs.
He's recently been interested in spotlighting different artists for each lesson he teaches. In his own dancing, he values playfulness, responding to his partner, and a cloud-like, comfortable connection.
